Traffic management plan along Beach Road updated to accommodate Strand seawall works
02 July 2026
The City would like to advise all residents, businesses and visitors in the Strand area of the changes to the traffic management plan along Beach Road in Strand to accommodate the Strand Seawall project works. These changes will take effect from 8 July 2026. The bulk of the work will be completed by the end of 2026, with the final completion at the end of January 2027, if all goes as planned.
As of 8 July 2026, the traffic management of Strand Beach Road will apply as follows:
Beach Road is temporarily a one way, allowing only north bound traffic from the intersection with Haarlem street at the Ocean Breeze Hotel to the Strand Municipal swimming pool. This one-way area is reserved for residents and restaurant, business and hotel patrons only.

‘Our team will be implementing this updated traffic management plan to ensure the safe and efficient management of traffic. Pedestrians especially are encouraged to please follow signage and use the opposite sidewalks, we need everyone to steer clear of any construction areas.
‘I know a long term project, along a much loved beach strip such as this, can be frustrating, but I kindly ask that residents and businesses please remain patient as we push through to complete this exciting project. I thank the public for their understanding so far,’ said the City’s Deputy Mayor and Mayoral Committee Member for Spatial Planning and Environment, Alderman Eddie Andrews.
